Finally, a list. I have been waiting for this for long time. I have been browsing ideas section at Wordpress dot org and I really liked some of the thoughts for future releases and finally I stumbled accross with this post. According to the roadmap, Wordpress 2.7 will be released in November, only couple of months away.

2.7 is going to be a great update because of these new features;

  • New admin UI based on the crazyhorse experimental UI branch with new menus and navigation
  • New edit post page that allows dragging and dropping of meta boxes. Boxes can be expanded and collapsed as before and now also completely hidden.
  • Ability to hide columns on the content index pages
  • Inline editing of posts and pages on the content index pages
  • Comments XMLRPC API (Who wants comment moderation on the iPhone? Me.)
  • Reply to comments from the admin
  • Keyboard hot keys for managing comments
  • Threaded Comments and new wp_list_comments() API
  • Sticky Posts
  • Automatic plugin install and integrated plugin browser
  • Automatic upgrade of WordPress
  • HTTPOnly auth cookies
  • New HTTP request API
  • A new SSH2 filesystem abstraction for updates and installs over sftp

Automatic Upgrade of Wordpress was a must, I’m glad they are finally making this happen.  Sticky posts are going to be useful. Can’t wait for the beta releases. If everything goes well, features like theme update can make it for 2.7. I’m pretty excited about this as well since I own a theme at wordpress dot org.

Please head over to Ryan Boren’s post to read the rest of his post.

Couple of months ago,  I have posted about a problem which I was having with Gmail and yet I’m about to post a new one.

I’m sure everyone has noticed that progress bar after you enter your account information in login form.  I don’t know how long it has been since gmail put that loading bar. This is one of the problems I’m having with Gmail in Firefox.

Here is the screen shot. It stops at that very end of the bar and it doesn’t go trough. At first, I waited bit more for it to load but didn’t go through. I tried clearing cookies, browsing history and other private data but it didn’t work. Only thing that works is that you have to hit “refresh” button.  Either it stops at the end like that screenshot or it never starts loading.

I’m going to try to reinstall Firefox 3 if this keeps being a problem. I’ll also update this post if anything works. Gmail works fine with other browsers. I don’t get this problem in Safari, Opera, IE7.

From now on, I won’t be fixing my CSS to make it work in Internet Explorer 6. The reason for that is that web browser is too old.

I think web the browser is too outdated and it should not be used to browse the web. Besides, Microsoft has updated as well. So should you. They are now about to release Internet Explorer 8. It’s now in its beta versions. You should at least upgrade it to Internet Explorer 7 which is better than IE6. There are just dozens of browsers that are better than Internet Explorer 6.

Anyways, I will not be fixing my CSS to make it IE6 compatible. This also goes for any of templates or wordpress themes I made or will make.

So I have finally decided to switch from Firefox to Google Chrome, I went ahead and imported all of my bookmarks to Google Chrome. But my RSS bookmarks were missing so I went ahead and did one more time and still the same.

RSS is a great thing, especially Live RSS Bookmarking. In other words, I hate using those RSS Readers such as Google Reader or Bloglines. I think they are time consuming. Anyways, I was surprised why Google Chrome didn’t support RSS Bookmarking.  RSS is supposed to be one of those “cool” things about web and google is not supporting that.

More thoughts on Google Chrome

It’s been over a week since I started using Google Chrome as my second browser. For some reason,  Firefox has been freezing a lot lately and provoking me to switch to Google Chrome completely.  A lot of people say that they can’t abandon Firefox Addons. That’s really not a big problem for me. It’s because my purpose of using Internet has been changed last couple of years. I get online to do research, check my emails, update my blogs and that’s about it. So I really don’t need those add-ons.

As long as they release a better version, with RSS Bookmarking Feature, I’ll switch to Google Chrome. It’s because it’s faster than other browsers and it doesn’t freeze.  I hate when a browser freezes while I’m typing or watching something. This used to happen a lot when I was using IE 6, so I switched to Firefox. Now, fireofox started to freeze a lot (It’s probably my system), so I decided to switch Google Chrome but since I don’t want to leave nearly 40 RSS Bookmarks in Firefox, I’ll stay using and supporting Firefox.

One other thing I’m really wondering about that what IE and Firefox is going to do to get back those people they lost to Google Chrome.

I finally downloaded Google Chrome and installed it.  Before I say anything, here is the a small video you should watch.

It looks like they have done a great job.  It definitely beats IE including the new versions. But not so sure about Firefox. Well, Google chrome is in beta stage. So i think it’s kind early to talk about competition with other browsers. Although, most of the Google products are in beta stage and they have already the leading position in the market.

Go ahead and take a look at google chrome website. You should also take a look at this release post at google blog. The post has useful information about this new browser.

For now, I won’t switch to Google Chrome. My reasons are;

  1. I have gotten used to having menus on the top of my screen.
  2. You can’t drag. This feature is a time saver in IE. When you think about it, it saves 2 years of my life.
  3. I’ll be wating for future releases to see how they improve.
I like Google Chrome in a way how I like Winamp.  When you think about it, Winamp is a lot faster than Windows Media Player. You can run it with many applications on. You can do the same thing with Google Chrome.  It doesn’t take much of CPU.
Also the new tab feature is brilliant. Unlike others, one tab doesn’t have the ability to crash your browser.
For now, Google Chrome is worth a try besides it’s in its beta stages. So I’m sure they are going to make it more powerful to compete with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I have been using wordpress maybe over a year now. For the last couple of months, I have been editing some themes after a while i got bored and started coding my own theme.  I designed this theme couple of months ago but never finished it. So i was finally be able to fix the small bugs and release it for public. Here it goes, It’s my first wordpress theme release, but not my first design.

About theme

It’s a two column theme. Content is in a light colored box, which is on a dark background. I’m pretty sure there are a lot of fixes need to be made. Please let me know about them so I can try to fix them. I’m also planning to edit some sections. But I think It’s good enough for an initial release.  Theme was bit different but I had to adjust it to meet requirements at wordpress.org/extend/themes. I’ll also release an extended version of this theme. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Support and Questions:

Please let me know any questions you might have about this theme, just post your problem/question in comments and I’ll get back to you.

This theme is currently being renewed. A newer version (1.5) will be released real soon.  Stay tuned.

They have just released 2.6.1 after two beta versions. Seems like they fixed plenty of bugs. Although, I haven’t noticed any of them. I upgraded my blog as well, but not because of those fixed bugs. I did it to get rid of that notice in dashboard. It just annoys me. Plus, there is not really a major change. I think they are going to start adding new features just like they did afetr 2.5.1. Go ahead and vote some ideas at wordpress dot org.

But anyways, wordpress 2.6.1 is available for download. If you wish to get rid of that annoying notice from your dashboard, go ahead and download 2.6.1 and upgrade your blog.

Yet another release from Wordpress, according to the roadmap for future releases,  Wordpress 2.7 will be released on November 10. But before then, there is going to be 2.6.1 just like the 2.5.1 before 2.6.  Ryan Boren, lead developer of Wordpress, has released the second beta version of 2.6.1. It’s available for download.

Click here to download.

I just upgraded wordpress on my localhost to this version. There is not really a big change between 2.6 and 2.6.1. It’s mostly the bugs they fixed from previous versions. They want to get ready before they start putting 2.7 together, new features and all.

They fix the bugs and release a child version then, after getting some reviews on the release. They start developing the next main version. I think it’s a good system.

Anyways, a new beta version is available. Here is the link to Ryan Boren’s site.

Recently, Facebook released a new look for facebook. If you have a facebook account, just log in and you will see a bar on the top showing information about this new look also a link to switch from old facebook to new facebook.

Will facebook lose its identity?

I don’t know if they are going to change it for everyone or they are going to let people choose which version they want to use. Hopefully, they will let people choose. I really don’t like the new one. I think they should remove that bar on the top, the new look doesn’t look right with that bar on the top. I don’t think they are going to get good feedback on this.

Facebook is on its way in becaming one of those social network sites like myspace, hi5. I think facebook has a unique design and should not have a major change at once. They are going to have to redesign some of their applications which I think it’s going to make the site bit more similar to other social network sites.

Anyways, a new version of facebook is avaliable for facebook users.

So I have finally updated my blog to Wordpress 2.6 and I wanted to try its new features.  Just before this new release, I was looking for a plugin that can caption images. It’s a pretty neat feature of wordpress 2.6.  So I went ahead and tried. What happened was that there was no style. It didn’t look good. I went ahead and took a look at my page’s source and tried to edit  CSS but it didn’t work.

But yesterday,  I found this codex article at wordpress dot org. It has fixed the problem. Here is the code block that you need to in order for it to work with style;

.wp-caption {
border: 1px solid #ddd;
text-align: center;
background-color: #f3f3f3;
padding-top: 4px;
margin: 10px;
/* optional rounded corners for browsers that support it */
-moz-border-radius: 3px;
-khtml-border-radius: 3px;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
border-radius: 3px;
}

.wp-caption img {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
border: 0 none;
}

.wp-caption p.wp-caption-text {
font-size: 11px;
line-height: 17px;
padding: 0 4px 5px;
margin: 0;
}

Of course you can edit this as you want to fit to your custom wordpress theme. I have changed couple of things and here is how it looks;
