The New Opera 10 with new Presto 2.2

opera_logoOpera is an established web browser.  It’s been around over ten years and it has always captured my attention with the work they do.  I’m only familiar with its latest versions (8 and 9).  They are getting ready for Opera 10 which I think it’s going to steal a lot of IE users. Why Internet Explorer? Because a lot of people still use IE6 instead of switching to the latest stable IE version.  So it’s going to be easy get some users from IE.

I downloaded the alpha version of  Opera 10. In terms of design, they are the same.  New features will come when the software is in beta version. They are currently working on their new rendering engine, Presto 2.2.  You can try the new Presto by downloading the first alpha version of Opera 10.

By downloading, you will be able to test the new engine which is faster compare to the current version of Opera.  Even though I haven’t switched completely to Opera, it’s worth to try out this new generation of Opera browser.  They are also implementing some features that you could find on Firefox like “In-line Spell Checker”.  They are bit late on this one.

Presto 2.2 has adapted a lot of CSS 3.0 modules. One of them is web fonts. CSS 3 allows you to use a font that’s available on the web even it’s not available on your visitor’s system.  They are also improving Dragonfly with this version as well.

Developer team of Opera has put up  nice section with extended information on Opera 10. Here are some links that you could visit for more information.

New version of Opera is promising as they have made a lot of major changes on their releases.  2009 will certainly become a memorable year for Opera community.
