I’m having the same problem. I tried gmail on another browser and it works.
I also tried google calendar in firefox and it works, as does google home page, and igoogle (most of the time).

  2. Having the same problem. The problem got worse with Chrome launch !

  3. Andrew says:

Not sure if this will work for everyone but it did for me. I was having the same problem (logging into gmail with firefox on a PC). This is from the Google help centre:

    In Firefox for PCs: (https://mail.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=troubleshooter.cs&problem=bugflow&selected=bugflow_signin00_signin14_signin15#step2_a)

    1. Log out of your Google Mail account and close all other open browser windows.
    2. Click the Tools menu at the top of your browser and select Clear Private Data…
    3. Select the Cookies and Cache checkboxes.
    4. Click Clear Private Data Now.

I am also having the same problem. When it is loading, I hit the ‘Refresh’ button in firefox. That loads gmail properly.

Had the same problem here. Started about a week ago. Progress bar appears but never finishes. I have the NoScript add-on installed. Once I marked google.com as Trusted in NoScript, it worked fine.

  6. durr-brain says:

I had this and then I read this thread, and noticed that i’d installed a firefox thing that lets you disable java and javascript with a single click! durr!

I have EXACTLY the same problem. I also use NOscipts and HAVE allowed google.com but still have the problem. Usually when I click RELOAD it will go through the end but at times it will not at all. Resulting in closing the gmail tab and restart from scratch. Quite annoying !! I don’t want to have to do one thing like clearing private data etc to make another thing work. I mean private data build up again. Don’t tell me I have to clear each time private data to check my e-mail. Thanks

Reporting from the google help site

If you get stuck on ‘Loading…,’ we suggest first trying our troubleshooting steps. You should be able to use the ‘older version’ of Gmail or the basic HTML view while we work to resolve the issue.

Either Firefox or Google take a -(minus) on this.

  10. Someone says:

Could this be a plugin issue?

  11. chopsmith says:

Yeah, I continue to have this issue. And it seems oddly tied in with Facebook. Whenever I get stuck on the “Loading” page in gmail, I will also be unable to load Facebook fully. As Mademoiselle Déco stated, it seemed to begin for me at around the time Chrome was launched. One more thing that I have noticed related to this problem is this:

Sometimes, when I log out of one gmail account, instead of it just logging me out as usual, it pops up an alert box saying something like “You have been logged out of this account . . . blah blah blah.” Whenever that alert box shows up upon logging out, the next time I try to log into gmail and/or facebook, I will get stuck. Has anyone else noticed this?

    Also, I don’t think it’s a browser-specific issue.

I’m a web developer and would REALLY like to know what the heck is going on here, and why it seems that there is a common link between google and facebook.

  12. chopsmith says:

Oh, and I’ve found that simply clearing all my private data, then restarting my browser “fixes” the issue. It is a very annoying issue, though, and, frankly, makes me wonder if there isn’t some data sharing going on between google and facebook about which I’ve never been made aware.

  13. Ted says:

I can attest that this issue has nothing to do with Facebook, as I have never used it, and have the same problem. I read elsewhere that it has to do with how Google processes secure login scripts. If you replace http with https in the address bar (so that it reads http://www.gmail.com) then the page will load correctly.

  14. Ted says:

Oops, so that it reads https://www.gmail.com

  15. @Ted
That seems a working solution in Firefox. However, problem still remains in Safari 4 when you try that.

  16. jsr says:

https does not work for me in firefox 3 on ubuntu, i get redirected to https://mail.google.com/mail/ — and this continues the loading loop grrr

^more people having the same problem…. i want to know what’s happening? I tried the https, and it works, but that means that i can’t use my google toolbar to get to gmail by clicking on the gmail button….

  18. pham says:

I’m using Win XP. Doesn’t work in firefox (html version works of course). Works JUST FINE in IE!! I dunno why. Well I just started using thunderbird which works great, but I still would like to be able to access it with firefox! I don’t like using IE ever.
